Vaye Dubois battles her family over returning to her hometown. The successful songstress does not want to face a tragic past where one of her former group's members was charged with murder. Vaye gets into a huge argument with her daughter and manager, Kayla Dubois, because without Vaye's permission, Kayla scheduled the singer to perform in her hometown. Vaye refuses to perform and fires her daughter. The singer also argues with her husband, Malachai Dubois, who is her agent. She gives him an ultimatum: fix the scheduling so she won't have to perform in her hometown. Malachai refuses, pushing back at his wife by telling her that if she doesn't come to grips with her past he is pretty sure that she will lose him and their daughter Kayla. Unhappily, Vaye returns to her hometown. There she discovers that her sister, Sharon, has been diagnosed with sarcoidosis. If the sarcoid is not removed from Sharon's lungs, she could die. This heartfelt novel digs up a past that Vaye hoped was long buried. But she finally faces her fears. When the chips are down, there comes a time when The Party's Over. What kept my motivation going through the many obstacles that I had to battle to bring this book to fruition was my husband, my parents and my sister, who was diagnosed with diabetes and an unknown disease called sarcoidosis. The sarcoid disease was eating away at my sister's lungs and yet she continued to go to a job every day to support her family. My sister was getting thinner and thinner at a rapid pace. My sister, like my Mom and Dad, is a real trooper! During her pre-operation she was asked if she wanted to apply for permanent disability. She told her health coordinators and her doctors that she would much rather go back to work and live as normal as possible. - Lori Harris In the fourteen years it took to write this book, the author's Mom and Dad died, as well as her brother and father-in-law. Author Lori A. Harris is a native of Southern California. She resides with her husband and son in Riverside County, California, and she is currently in pursuit of an academic certificate in creative writing. She will graduate in spring 2013 with honors from Rio Salado College, where she is a member of the International Honor Society in Phi Theta Kappa. Although her novel The Party's Over is fictional, she hopes her book will shed a light on the real life disease of sarcoidosis, which is often misdiagnosed as asthma, bronchitis, AIDS, and various forms of cancer. The author will donate a percentage of the novel's proceeds for medical research to decrease steroid usage, as well as to detect and eliminate sarcoidosis in its early stages.
